Make a Bequest
Just as Walter and Eliza Hall left a legacy to improve medical research, you too can help ensure our vision is realised by leaving the Institute a gift in your Will. Having a valid Will and Testament ensures that your estate will be divided according to your desires. Not having a Will, defaults control of your worth in line with state law. Ensuring your loved ones are provided for as a priority, leaving a legacy in your Will to the Institute guarantees you will be remembered for generations to come.
Bequests are a very important and special way of supporting the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research. With programs investigating cancer, immunity, autoimmunity and infectious diseases, your gift, if you so desire, can be directed towards a specific area of research, otherwise it will be used across all platforms.
Your gift can take the form of:
a) A specific amount of money;
b) A percentage of the estate;
c) The residue of the estate;
d) A life insurance or superannuation policy;
e) A trust or named fund
f) Assets such as shares, property, artworks, jewelery etc;
Suggested wording for a bequest:
“I _________ bequeth (insert option a, b, c, d, e or f) to the Walter
and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research to be applied for research
purposes of the Institute (or as directed by the donor)” or
“ I bequeath the sum of ______ dollars and/or _____ % of my residual
Estate to The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research to be
used for medical research, for which the receipt of the Company
Secretary or other authorized officer shall be sufficient discharge to
my Executor for the bequest.”

A solicitor or trustee company can prepare your Will. It is at this time, details of your bequest should be made known in order to ensure your estate is properly distributed and your heirs are subjected to minimal burden. If you have already prepared a Will and wish to made an amendment in the form of a bequest to the Institute, your solicitor can add a codicil, which is an instruction that becomes part of your Will.
