Ways to Give
Donations
Many Donors choose to support the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute by making cash gifts. This method of giving can have immediate impact. All donations over $2 to the the Institute are tax-deductible. All donations are acknowledged by letter and a receipt, and those of $1,000 and over are listed in the Annual Report. There may be other suitable ways to acknowledge your generosity, which we will be pleased to discuss with you.
Unrestricted gifts are especially valuable because they provide the flexibility needed to move quickly in unexpected directions in research. Unrestricted funds also provide the resources to cover the costs of those critical services of the Institute that are not entirely financed by other support.
Specific purpose donations
The Institute is pleased to honour donations to be applied to a specific area of research or used for a purpose, which is consistent with our mission and objectives as a research and teaching institute.
Naming opportunities
As the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute launches into a dynamic phase with the redevelopment and expansion of the research laboratories by 2010, key naming opportunities have arisen. You can leave a lasting legacy by naming a piece of specialised equipment, a building structure or laboratory, which will be recognised for years to come. Equipment Sponsorship
Medical research requires state-of-the-art equipment. Your donation will help purchase a vital piece of equipment, which will aid scientists of the Institute produce breakthrough discoveries that will translate into tomorrow’s therapies and cures.

Memorial Giving
When you lose someone close to you, deciding how to pay your respects can be difficult. Donations in lieu of flowers at a loved ones funeral honours their memory. Tribute donations received by the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, ensures continued research into diseases and improved patient benefits for generations to come.
Family and friends attending the funeral can be encouraged to donate to the Institute.
You may choose to include wording within a funeral notice such as:
"In loving memory of ……, the family would prefer donations to the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in lieu of flowers. Donation envelopes will be available on day of funeral".
(Option 1) Individuals choosing to make a donation will be acknowledged with a receipt and a card sent to the family bestowing well wishes. For your privacy, your donation amount will not be disclosed.
(Option 2) Individuals choosing to make a donation will be acknowledged with a receipt and a thank-you card. For your privacy, your donation amount will not be disclosed.
Special envelopes are available for this purpose from the Fundraising, Communications and External Relations Department. Please call 03 9345 2912 to arrange for these envelopes to be delivered prior to the funeral.

Special Occasion Giving
Birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and special family occasions can be celebrated with donations to the Institute in lieu of gifts or flowers.
A gift in lieu will help us continue our mission of "Mastery of Disease Through Discovery".
How does it work?
You can elect to donate in lieu of giving gifts or you can asks friends and family to donate in lieu of receiving gifts from them. When a gift in lieu donation is made, a gift card with the donor's name and message is sent to the person celebrating their special occasion. The donated amount is not included on the card.

Gift in Lieu is a unique way for you to celebrate life and love. You can participate in 2 ways:
Ask your guests to make a donation in lieu of gifts to you. To find out how please call 03 9345 2912. You'll receive Gift in Lieu envelopes to include with your invitations.
Donate to our research in lieu of gifts or bonbonniere to your friends and family. Contact us to register your donation, and create your own gift card and message to notify family and friends of your donation on their behalf. Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.
